after several attempts i keep getting the same error message that guy was getting before as shown below. I changed my acess to allow full control onto all users on my computer, system yada yada. Is there anything else i need to enable?!? please help someone....
running windows vista by the way on EAW Gold Pack, the cd not steam if it matters

Sorry for the delay in response. Anyways clearly your error indicated you do not have permissions still. Unfortunatly I wrote in native permissions for vista/7 and forgot XP which I should fix asap. Anyways, right click, hit run as, and select Administrato, and yes even though you are already the admin this has to be done.

Yeah unfortunately I've tried that many times and should've added it in my first response. It still comes up with the same message so I'm not too sure whats wrong.

Please try copying the file into your System32 folder andrunning it and see if that forces the correct permissions.

So I've tried that as well as putting it in several subfolders in system32 and its a no go captain. Same exact error message. Would deleting the host file be bad? Cause it just looks like a bunch of cookie trackers in it or something.

No LOL the HOSTS file is what rectifies the issue. If you Take Ownership of your system32 folder it should work.

Geez it still isnt working. Im pretty sure im doing it right too. I went into properties of system32 and changed ownership to me and/or to the admin and it still wont work. I ran the patch as admin and with out and that didnt work either. I've also tried reinstalling the patch.

Ahh, I know what's happening. Please uncheck "Read Only" on all the files in question (HOSTS file, program, etc.)

Hey. The patch worked as far as letting me get in the chat room. Before it would freeze. i have all patches i can find and cannot connect to any online games however. it always fails in the 'nat negotion' I have windows 7 and 3 gigs of ram. I've downloaded the 'more than 2 gigs of ram' patch. Please help me figure this out.

Well now it allowed me to uninstall the patch, but when i click install patch it comes up with the same error message. :/
