To all...
I unfortunately didn't read the forums; i.e. here or at HP because I had just purchased an e9180t last Friday evening
I've purchased a number of HP PC's, servers, workstations, switches and routers over the past year that I didn't really think that I would have a problem.
I just thought I would do some review reading late last night and came across the HP forum along with the many complaints.
I had even tried to call the Sales dept. to cancel but was told it was too late. However, I can return it within the 21 day period that they allow. I had also asked about getting the 9280 vs the 9180 being that that's what I saw this morning on their website. They said no.
Now I feel like a complete idiot when I usually am pretty good at vetting equipment, at least for my job.
It didn't occur to me to really get my facts straight for my own since it was an HP.
Is the return procedure painful?
Any other constructive advice at this juncture would be appreciated.
And kudos for all those that have contributed to obtaining some sort of justification and resolution to these issues!

I can't believe HP has nt fixed these problems. I found the forum that leads to this forum right after I had ordered a 9180. Quickly canceled and no hp for me. I would like some of you who are looking for a replacement pc to check out maxforce. I have one coming from him. Pick your own components at a good price. I am not associated with the site, but if you check it, you may be surprised. Good luck with hp.

Class Action Lawsuit for HP users
Thank you sooooo much for this.. I have filed a claim. I also filed a claim with BBB... but BBB has not responded yet... going on over a week... someone needs to help us with some legal power.
I too believe that 5.22 has slowed my PC considerably. When loading/installing software, I noticed that software that normally took 2 minutes to install now takes a little less than 6 minutes. Also, when i boot or reboot my PC, the log-in theme sound/clip plays wayyy before the desktop appears. Also the startup programs take longer to load up.
I was editing photos using "PAINT" and about every 1 of 4 photos i tried to save would not allow me... it would error out saying "File could not be saved at this time" and but when i repeated the file SAVE AS steps again, it would save. Don't know if that has anything to do with anything, but stuff like that didn't happen in 5.18... i edit photos a lot too.
I also had USB problems on 5.22 that i didn't have before either. Randomly USB devices stop working.

Its not just the newer bioses that is doing this. The original configurations for ram was set up properly for triple channel, which seemed much faster on the i7 920. Now they're shipping with only five slots populated, because they think that triple performance is the issue, wo thats why theyre slowly scaling everything back until they can find the issue.

I thought that is what electrical engineers are supposed to do....give a thumbs up or thumbs down to manufacturing when they have decided everything is a go! And now they can't even find out what is causing this problem??????

Nope, although it probably has something to do with the capacitors on the motherboard not holding a charge, but that's China for ya.

In the end, it's HP's fault for not having a better QC department (which is the first thing I was mad about) but what truly angers me most is the lack of ownership of the problem (second thing I am mad (actually pissed) about). Although I do not know of how fast the pre-5.18 BIOS were... I know for a fact that 5.22 is a hellll of alot slower. All though the freezing is intermittent, the symtoms are constant. If you are listening to music... the sound will distort or skip for a millisecond... in given intervals... then the intervals become shorter and shorter until... you know the rest. But it almost seems that the music player is a good "freeze detector" ... so far my theory is correct... i have been running windows media player and the sound starts to distort right before a freeze.
It has yet to freeze without the basic symtoms described. Ofcoarse, this is a correlation, and duplicating the issue (you guys) can help make my theory concrete. It's not going to solve your freezing problem, but having a warning could help you not lose your WORD DOCUMENT that took several hours to write up, or lose that website, or whatever you are doing that takes time to do again and you could save it.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I reccommended to go to 12GB ram for tripple channel performance, revert to 5.13, and just let her rip on speed. Tthen when they release something that isn't garbage take the upgrade. Why wait in a slow world.

How can i revert to 5.13? Also, when you say 12 gb ram triple channel you mean 4gbx3 sticks or 2gbx6 sticks? sorry for noob question... thx in advance for help.
