RE: HP e9150/e9180 Computer Failures - Hanspuppa - 06-16-2010

Hey Guys, I have the infamous HP e9150t system also. It did not work right out of the box. I got it on July 7,2009, so it will go out of warranty in a few weeks.

After fighting with HP for 10 months, I finally sent it back for repairs and got it back damaged, with a Pegatron 1.04.E01 board and still all the issues I had originally.

It appears to be of no use to send your systems back for repair since they will return damaged and unrepaired.

I intend, later this fall, to just build me a system I can use.

Again, $2,000.00 down the drain.

RE: HP e9150/e9180 Computer Failures - Daddy - 06-16-2010

I demanded a replacement when I was having problems and finally got a 9208t that worked. After arguing and fighting I actually made out pretty good when all was said and done. I got a hard drive and video card upgrade, three sets of kybd/mouse that they didn't want back. So for me the battle wasn't pleseant, but I did get some compensation for my trouble. I would at least call and complain, document the history of the problem, and suggest that a comparable replacement unit may be appropriate in your case, after all the trouble you've been through AND THEY STILL HAVEN'T FIXED IT!!!!

RE: HP e9150/e9180 Computer Failures - Hanspuppa - 06-16-2010

Hello Daddy, You can't imagine how many contacts with HP I have had in the past year. I have at least 50 emails that I managed to save, and at least 100 that I lost since I had to reformat and reinstall the OS so many times. I finally started saving them on another hard drive.

I have had about 6-7 case managers, chatted on the Internet at least 50 times, had Case Managers to call my on the phone, and still no joy.

I begged, pleaded, threatened, mentioned the class action law suit, and still nothing positive from HP.

I mentioned all the others on the HP site that had these very same issues and they said all those HP customers were not reliable and you could not believe anything that was on the Internet. I suppose that is correct, since their own advertising said these systems were their finest line of computers, hence the name Elite.

I contacted the California BBB, my State BBB, the California Attorney General's Office, the California Department of Insurance, since they are in charge of false advertising, the Federal Trade Commision, both my US Senators, my US representative, my local attorney, my local small claims court, and still no joy.

I insisted on a new system many, many times and was rejected on all request. I was told by one Case Manager that all the trouble I was having was my fault, since I ordered the system on the Internet from their web site, and didin't get one from a store already assembled.

This has been more than a nightmare, it's been a disaster.

I have cut my losses and regained my health and have moved on.

Thank You for your suggestion.

RE: HP e9150/e9180 Computer Failures - PCleery - 07-06-2010

Hi guys, I got my e9150t back about five days ago. They put in the
1.04E01 MOBO. So far so good. No freeze ups or BSOD. No damage to the case or anything. So now it's wait and see. I will let you all know if I have any more problems.

RE: HP e9150/e9180 Computer Failures - Daddy - 07-06-2010

By now you're probably out of warranty. The only real fix for this problem is a new motherboard. HP finally replaced my defective unit with a new system that has a 1.04E01 motherboard. I now have the 5.28 BIOS. I haven't had any of the typical freeze/lockup problems since getting this system upgrade. If you're out of warrqanty and really want to fix the problem, you need to think about replacing the motherboard with a new one. ASUS and EVGA and MSI all make good replacement boards that will work.

RE: HP e9150/e9180 Computer Failures - Hanspuppa - 07-07-2010

I have one more week of warranty, so I called the HP support line last night, and as usual, I got 4 different people before I was disconnected. A few minutes later, I got a call from a Case Manager. For two hours I talked with this Case Manager, and he agreed that I should not have to put up with this defective system, that I had to prop up with cardboard, but all he could offer was for me to send it back again. I declined his offer, and then he said he could start sending me component parts, one at a time until I got the system to work properly. I said the first part would have to be the case. I would have to remove all the components from the damaged case and install them in a new case. Then I would have to call him again and request a new motherboard, and change that. If this did not correct the problems, I would then be sent a video card (refurbished) and see if that would correct the issues, and on and on. He did seem to be genuinely intersted in my situation, but could offer me nothing except to return the system until I had as many as four returns before they would consider a replacement system. I was on the phone for no less than four hours.
I'll just keep using my Dell and this winter I will buy a case and motherboard, and use what parts I can and build another system. This system will be getting outdated for my purposes anyway.
Same old HP. Nothing has changed.

RE: HP e9150/e9180 Computer Failures - PCleery - 11-10-2010

Hi guys, long time no see. Here we go again, I came home today to find my e9150t had gone BSOD. I had left it on while doing my laundry. After starting it up a window came up. It was like one of those paid for security scanner anti virus things. I tried to click it off but it won't go away. I can't even open up chrome to get online. Anything I click on this window comes up. It's called (Security Tool) I tried following it's directions and it want's $79.99 and my credit card number. I backed out and turned the computer off. I'm on my Dell now. I have never had a virus or trojan so don't know if that is what this is. I am currently running a Kaspersky Rescue Disk. It's about half way through the scan now. If you guys have a better idea let me know. Daniel

RE: HP e9150/e9180 Computer Failures - Daddy - 11-11-2010

Ouch! You got snakebit. These are the worst damn things to get rid of. I found that the only way to avoid the trap when you get the popup is to click Start, restart. Even trying to close the popup window on some of these installs the virus, and they are brutal to get rid of.

Now that you have the bad news, let's see if we can't fix it. I have had some success getting rid of these, but it's been a while since I tackled one, and I know they evolve and get more clever all the time. Let me do some research and see if I can figure this one out. I'll get back to you soon.

Welcom back.
There are three things i do to avoid this kind of malware. We have been running Avira free and MS Security Essentials on all our computers for about 3 yrs. now. Second we use a the hosts file to block most advertising and known bad sites. Those instructions can be found here:

http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hostsfaq.htm

But that's all for after we fix the problem. Try this here:

http://www.wikihow.com/Remove-Security-Tool-Rogue

I would also add, try deleting the current hosts file while in safe mode after the above instructions, as that is what blocks/redirects the browser, which prevents going to sites to downlaod antivirus software. It can be found in C:\Windows\System32

Let me know how it goes.

RE: HP e9150/e9180 Computer Failures - PCleery - 11-11-2010

Thanks Daddy for the reply, like I said I'm running that Kaspersky Rescue disk now. It's taking forever, only 79% done and it's taken 5:13 hours. It will probably ask for $$$ to fix whatever it finds or claims to find. I'm thinking I should just reinstall the operating system. I still have the Win7 upgrade disk. Fortunately I have most of my stuff on my Dell too so I won't lose to much should I go there. I still don't know where the hell it came from. I really don't do that much surfing on the web. Thanks again and if you find a better way let me know.Undecided

RE: HP e9150/e9180 Computer Failures - Daddy - 11-11-2010

A redo is the best way to ensure you get a clean start.

I don't know all the ways these things get into systems. We use the setup I described on all our systems. As you can imagine, my son and I are online all the time maintaining our websites and interacting in forums. We never get caught.

My wife, on the other hand, has the same protection and she's been bit a couple times. I think it's mostly bad sites that dump it in somehow.
