HP e9150/e9180 Computer Failures - TheWiz - 10-18-2009
From all the great work done on the HP Forums, it would be redundant for me to restate the past few months of activity. The purpose of this thread is to GATHER everything that we know, everything we DON'T know, and come up with logical reasoning, and things to try. Although we shouldn't even be doing this for HP, I think a lot of peope would appreciate a computer that worked. Currently, I stand firm with others on the HP Forum that they are now trying to cripple the BIOS and hardware functionality. I am working with biosmods.com, where I am a Susper Moderator, to look into the bioses from 5.13 to 5.22 and see what has changed, if anything. I welcome all those who want to continue to spread what HP is doing by voicing their opinions here, and although this site is new, Search engines are indexing content as we speak, and it will become yet another source of information about this problem. I encourage you to register and post your thoughts.

I take a rather dismal view and believe that HP will do nothing. I found this website and encourage everyone to register.

Well, the only thing that makes me thing they're doing something, probably not good, is the frequent motherboard revisions. Its pretty uncommon to have 4 board revisions in a month. But I would agree that they are desperate for an answer to fall out of the sky. At this point, they should just drop Pegatron and get a new mobo manufacturer.

I received a lemon e9150t back in July. It was freezing and going BSOD on me right out of the box. I called HPs tech support and tried to talk with someone in India. No offense to any Indians out there but I couldn't understand anything she was saying so gave up. Then I found the HP customer forum. It was two pages long then and decided I wanted a refund. I called Tech support again and said the magic word REFUND. They transfered my call to the business office and they talked me into a replacement. At the same time I posted what I had done on HPs forum signed in as PCdumb. I later changed my name to PCleery. I am one of the fortunate ones I received a good replacement. Unfortunately I seem to be only one of the very few who have received a good one. Most have received one lemon after another. Some are on their fourth machine now. HP has had their heads in the sand on this from the start. I for one will never purchase another HP computer again.

I have the v1.04 mobo and the had the 5.13 bios but took a chance and loaded the 5.22. I haven't noticed any problems with it so far. Today I have 75 days of clean running. Knock on wood.

How do you tell what motherboard you are on and where do you find it?

If you open up the case of the computer, normally near the CPU socket, it will say Rev. 1.03, 1.04, A05, or A07, the A07 being the most recent. Then to check your bios version, when the HP boot screen comes up, its in white numbers at the bottom right hand of the screen.
Wew're using the A07 with the 5.22 bios and its still a failure. LOL.

You can download BelarcAdvisor and it will give you lot's of info on your system. It's free and no problem. Just Google it.

Thanks wiz, for going to the effort to help us plagued HP buyers.
While my machine isn't one of the boxes in the thread title, it does have the same problem parts. Mine is an m9600t with the Truckee v 1.03 mobo, and had 5.13 bios until I did the 5.22 (ahem) upgrade.
I was having a few BSOD's before, and lots of freezes before the bios change, but from the time the new bios came out, I wasn't getting any freezes. This morning, I got a BSOD while surfing the Costco site.
I have tried some things that used to make the box freeze nearly every time, like running the system or motherboard diagnostics. It has passed the diagnostics every time I have tried them since the new bios. I had set the sleep mode to never recently, so last night I manually put the machine to sleep, and got the BSOD after 30 minutes or so. I will try that one again to see if I can get it to happen again. I will cross post this in the HP forum.
That's my story, having the same useless HP tech experience as described on HP's site. Thanks again!
