How to clear cmos password on toshiba L300 and other models - gabefauver - 12-26-2009
Hey folks, I came across this procedure about a year ago and have used it on several different toshiba laptops. This works 100% if there are two solder points labeled "B500".
Ok so usually next to the ram slots is where you will find the "B500" solder points allthough I once located them under the keyboard (cant remember exact model) but do some poking around and you will find them.
At this point I assume you have the power adapter unplugged from the unit as well as the battery removed and that you have pressed the power button a few times to drain any remaing voltage from the system.
Once you find the correct solder points (example)http://www.csd.toshiba.com/content/s...044812/009.jpg then find a suitable method to short the two points together, I find the simplest way is to solder a small length of wire between the two,but a pair of tweezers works too.
Now that you have the two points shorted together you need to plug in the power adapter and press the power button (still keeping the points shorted) until you hear a beep and the screen will usually say something like invalid config, defaults loaded.
So now we can turn off the unit and remove our soldered length of wire or tweezers, etc. and reassemble the unit.
Congratulations you have just removed the password on your laptop.
Also as a side note, if there is a hdd password enabled also once the bios pass is cleared the hdd will most likely have to be replaced not allways but for some reason even if the hdd pass is known it is possible that it won't accept the password. But hdd's are cheap and you can find one for less than the cost of sending the unit in to toshiba for password removal.

Well no, the procedure is basically the same for all but the solder points are in different location. example I have done this on a (don't remember the exact model) newer ibm mini style laptop (no cdrom, solidstate hdd,) and the solder points were harder to get to. Full dissassemble (almost) top side of board almost under edge of cpu heatsink and were labeled with an "xxx". I will try and find some pics of different models and brands and the target solder points.

Satellite P100 & Satellite Pro P100
With notebook turned off;
Open Wi-Fi Cover
Remove Mini Card Wi-Fi card
Locate & Short Out JP8 for 5 Seconds
Remove short and turn on
NO BOOT
Press & Hold Power button to turn off
Turn on again & password is cleared
Satellite L10, L20, L30 & Satellite Pro L20
With notebook turned off;
Open Wi-Fi Cover
Locate & Short Out JP1 for 15 Seconds (Satellite L10)
Satellite L20/Pro L20 short out G1
Satellite M100 & Tecra A6
With notebook turned off;
Open Memory Cover
Remove Memory
Remove Black plastic insulation
Locate & Short CMOS CLR1 for 15 Seconds
All the following models use the same password removal process.
Satellite: 17xx Series, 1000, 1110,1130, 1200, 1900, 2430, 3000 P20,P30, P33, A30, A70, A80, M40X, M50,M60, M70, M100
Tecra A3/S2, A5, A6
The jumper is always located under or near the memory modules
Depending on the model the jumper could be labelled J1, J2, J5, J7, J9 or CMOS CLR1 (M100 & A6)
Satellite A100 & Tecra A7
Remove Strip cover
Remove 2 x K/B screws
Move K/B Unit up but don’t disconnect
Release & Remove Mini Card Wi-Fi Card
Locate & short C88 Pin 1 & 2 together
Power on Machine while still shorting Pin 1 & 2
As soon as the TOSHIBA logo appears, remove short
If machine boots, Password has been removed
Satellite A100 (PSAA2A-02C01N)
Remove Memory Cover from base of machine
Release & remove right side Memory Module
Lift black plastic insulation
Locate & short PAD500 Pin 1 & 2 together
Power on machine while still shorting Pin 1 & 2
As soon as the TOSHIBA logo appears, remove short
If machine boots, password has been removed
TECRA A4 & Satellite M40
Open modem & Wi-Fi card cover
Remove mini PCI Wi-Fi card
Lift up black plastic
Locate & short C738 Pin 1 & 2 together
Power on machine while still shorting Pin 1 & 2
As soon as the TOSHIBA logo appears, remove short
If machine boots, password has been removed
TECRA S1
Open palm rest cover
Remove mini PCI Wi-Fi card
Lift up black plastic
Locate & short C5071 Pin 1 & 2 together
Power on machine while still shorting Pin 1 & 2
As soon as the TOSHIBA logo appears, remove short
If machine boots, password has been removed
TE 2300
Remove 2 x B12 screws from bottom of system
Remove strip cover
Remove keyboard screws 1 x B2.5 & 1 x SF4
Remove 1 x 4mm screw & Wi-Fi cover
Remove mini PCI Wi-Fi card if fitted
Locate & short points as shown in picture
attatched to this post.
Power on machine while still shorting points
Short for 5 seconds
Nothing will appear on the screen
Turn system off holding down power button
Password is now removed
Satellite A60
Open Wi-Fi slot cover
Lift up black plastic
Locate & short C561 Pin 1 & 2 together
Power on machine while still shorting Pin 1 & 2
As soon as the TOSHIBA logo appears, remove short
If machine boots, password has been removed

Dell CP and CPI Latitudes and many others (check list at bottom for models that this won't work on)
Short pins 3 and 6 together on the 24c02 chip and continue shorting while powering on the unit.
The chip is below the processor so you have to solder two very small wires and bring them outside the laptop then reinstall the processor. Refer to picture for which pins to short. On some other hp and dell models the chip may be in a different location that is easier to get to and a paperclip may be used.
Dell models that can't be unlocked with shorting method:

There are many known ways to reset the password:
* By removing the CMOS battery
* By using the motherboard jumper
* By using MS DOS command
* By using software
* By using Backdoor BIOS password

Using software and MS DOS commands won't work if you can't get past the password request.
