RE: HP TX1000 Thermal Paste Mod (Fixes Overheating) - TheWiz - 11-21-2009
From what I remember, there's a little white tab indent on the ZIF connector that you simply lift up with your fingers and the cord flies out. What specific modl do you have?
Thanks,

Yes, coolmaster is pretty good, and should do well as long as the coat on the CPU is perfectly even, and you make sure you put only a small bit on each side of your super sanded penny.

In the end I just yanked the cable out ....
I have a TX1314AU.
No copper pennies here ... so I skipped that part but even with 3 external fans core is running at 50 deg C, and GPU 68 deg. C.
I guess I should try and find some aluminum instead as my wireless is still dropping out.

Doyou have any other coin that has a high copper content? I get temps lower than that with no external cooling.

hi, i had my tx repaired, the gpu chip was resoddered (because my laptop eventually kept on hanging up and can't start without doing the towel trick), a copper plate as small as the gpu chip was placed sandwiched by a thermal paste (cooler master HPK), and the paint on the heat sink was also removed. However the temp post repair was still the same:
GPU 65-75 C
core 45-60 C
=does the effect on the temp will immediately take effect or will the new thermal paste adjust over time to see the effect on the temp?
=or the cooler master thermal compound also inferior? (i cant find any arctic silver in my place as previously posted)
=or the copper plate too small?
the technician who worked on my laptop gave me a 1 month warranty on the repair he did, he suggested to override the sensor so the fan will start and keep on working as soon as the laptop starts, will this work? he said he will do this mod if my laptop fails again.. any other comment or advice?
thank you in advance for your reply..
PS: my temp was in power saver only, it goes up much higher when in hp recommended or high performance mode

New thermal paste will normally take a few cycles of use to cure and obtain it's best performance. It can lower by as much as 5C over a few days, but is not always that dramatic. We only use Arctic Silver, but any good product should help lower temps. Coolermaster is a good brand and should work well.
Our TX1320us is running OK now but my daughter doesn't do too much heavy video on it. I'll try to do some testing on it this week to see how it's doing. We did the mod about a month ago.

Is it ok to replace the copper coin with a square piece of Aluminum.

Yes, aluminum will work well also, as long as it is think enough, roughly .0024"

You really mean 0.0024''. I think it is too thin. It is appro. 0.6 mm.
